The Bears Will Play in the Troy Cox Classic and the Dr. Diana Natalicio Memorial Tournament
GREELEY, Colo. – After starting the season 1-3 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, the Northern Colorado softball team hits the road to compete in the Troy Cox Classic and the Dr. Diana Natalicio Memorial Tournament, hosted by New Mexico State and UTEP. The Bears will face TAMU-CC, New Mexico State, and #18 Nebraska at the Troy Cox Classic, and will face Manhattan University and UTEP at the Dr. Diana Natalicio Memorial Tournament.

A LOOK AT THE BEARS
The Bears started the season 1-3 at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with a win over Louisiana Tech and losses to #9 Florida State and #4 Oklahoma State. UNC scored 13 runs over the four games.
Three Bears posted a .400 or higher batting average in the opening weekend, including Ella Gonzales, Amailee Morales, and Quinn Myers-Lenz. As a team, UNC features two players with a 1.000 or better OPS. On the base paths, the Bears have stolen three bases on three attempts. Sabrina Javorsky leads the team in doubles with two, and Krista Francia, Morales, and Gonzales tallying one each with Gonzales hitting one home run and Morales hitting two.
In the circle, UNC holds a 4.36 ERA with eight strikeouts and 16 earned runs in 25.2 innings.
Head Coach Dedeann Pendleton-Helm is in her third season at UNC, registering a 54-52 (.509) record in that time.
SCOUTING TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders softball team has had a competitive start to their 2025 season, showcasing both resilience and areas for growth. They opened the year with a tough 0-8 loss to New Mexico and a 2-7 loss to Tulsa in the Bearkat Classic but quickly rebounded with a thrilling 6-5 walk-off victory over Bryant for their first win of the season. The Islanders continued to fight hard, splitting their games on February 8 by falling 2-4 to Bryant before edging out Sam Houston with a 4-2 victory.
Paolina Baez is leading the Islanders offensively, totaling six RBIs and nine total bases on .286 batting and a 1.055 OPS. Malia Williams posted a 1.66 ERA over the first week of action, appearing in three games and starting in two for a total of 12.2 innings. Williams has given up three earned runs to go along with six strikeouts.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO STATE
(Friday | 5 p.m. MST / Saturday | 4:30 p.m.)
The New Mexico State Aggies are 4-2 through the first week of the season with two wins over both Colorado State and Kansas City.
The Aggies are led by Lauren Garcia, who posted a .600 batting average to go along with a 2.334 OPS and 1.667 slugging. Garcia and Kendal Lunar blasted four home runs a piece to combine for 19 RBIs. Desirae Spearman is holding a 2.63 ERA over 8.0 innings with five strikeouts. She has kept opposing batters to a .143 in her two starts.
SCOUTING #18 NEBRASKA
(Saturday | 11:45 a.m. MST)
The #18 Huskers are 3-2 to start the season after playing in the NFCA Lead Off Classic opening weekend. Nebraska took down the #6 Tennessee Lady Volunteers 7-1 before defeating Southern Mississippi and Bethune-Cookman. Their two losses came from #13 Texas Tech and #24 Mississippi St.
The Huskers are led by Ava Kuszak who posted a .467 batting average and .9ss slugging percentage in 15 at bats to collect 14 total bases, six RBIs, two home runs, and a double. Jordy Bahl has pitched 13.2 innings for the Big Red, recording a 0.51 ERA and holding a 1-1 record. She has held opposing batters to a .255 average and has only allowed one home run.
SCOUTING MANHATTAN UNIVERSITY
(Sunday | 9 a.m. MST)
The Jaspers have yet to start their 2025 season as their games against Delaware State were canceled.
They ended their 2024 season with a 11-0 win over Siena. Senior Lindsey Hoag led the Jaspers last season with a .290 batting average and .855 OPS in 138 at bats. Ava Metzger is returning in the circle after finishing last season with a 5.08 ERA and a 3-11 record with one save. She allowedd 51 earned runs on 80 hits and a .291 opposing batting average.
SCOUTING UTEP
(Sunday | 12 p.m. MST)
The Miners are 2-2 through the first week, recording two wins over Kansas City and two losses to UC Santa Barbara.
Amaya Lee is off to a hot start this season, tallying three home runs in eight at bats to bring in seven runners and collect 12 total bases. Lee has a .375 batting average to go along with 2.000 OPS and 1.500 slugging percentage. Anisa Reynolds is leading the pitchers with a 5.07 ERA in a team high 9.2 innings. She has four strikeouts and has given up nine earned runs.
UP NEXT
The Bears will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to play in the Marucci Classic, hosted by NC State. UNC will play Central Michigan, NC State, and Illinois. The tournament will take place Feb. 21-23.
