Walkin, Bennett Move Up UNC All-Time Lists at UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite

Strong efforts in the sprints, jumps, hurdles and multis highlight Northern Colorado’s opening day in Colorado Springs.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Northern Colorado opened competition at the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite & Multi with a productive day across the track, jumps and multi-events, highlighted by multiple podium finishes, personal records and two additions to the UNC all-time lists in the men's 60-meter hurdles.
On the women's side, the Bears saw strong performances in the field and middle-distance events. Sally Gould led the way in the long jump, placing third overall with a mark of 5.58 meters (18'-3.75"), while Tamia John finished ninth at 5.34m (17'-6.25"). Savanna Amack added a personal-best leap of 5.13m (16'-10") to place 11th, and April Necaise followed in 13th.
Claire Nowels delivered one of the top finishes of the day on the track, taking second in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:33.05. In the pentathlon, Ciara Piffarerio placed 15th overall, totaling 2,813 points.
The women's sprints featured several personal bests in the 60-meter prelims, led by Alison Hoodak's PR time of 7.94. Kayla Christiansen and Kara Sidwell also posted PRs, while Sherika Thomas advanced to the finals in the 60 hurdles with a fourth-place qualifying time of 9.07.
The men's team turned in an impressive showing in the hurdles, as Rayvon Walkin and Moise Bennett both climbed into the UNC record book. Walkin won the 60-meter hurdles prelims in 8.15, moving to No. 4 on the UNC Top-10 All-Time list, while Bennett followed closely in second with a personal-best 8.20, ranking No. 5 all-time. Jaydon Sundbye also qualified for the finals with an eighth-place finish.
Johnny Fisher led the men's 60-meter dash prelims for the Bears, qualifying fifth overall with a personal-best 6.96. In the field, Digby Marshall placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 6.64m (21'-9.5").
Northern Colorado rounded out the day with solid efforts in the middle distance and multi-events. Nash Jones finished fourth in the men's 800 meters (2:09.57), while Moise Bennett and Jameson Rembert sit 10th and 11th, respectively, after day one of the heptathlon, which resumes Saturday.
The Bears will continue competition Saturday as the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invite & Multi wraps up with finals and the conclusion of the multi-events.
