GREELEY, Colo. – Following one of the program's biggest wins in recent history, the Northern Colorado football team has been named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week after its 49-33 road victory over No. 11 Idaho on Saturday.
The recognition highlights Northern Colorado's statement performance in Week 7, as the Bears never trailed against one of the top-ranked teams in the country.
Under third-year head coach Ed Lamb, the Bears (3-3) put together a complete team effort to earn their third win of the season. Northern Colorado's offense exploded for 35 first-half points, while the defense limited Idaho's high-powered attack to just 14 points before halftime.
Quarterback Eric Gibson Jr. led the charge, completing 22 of 34 passes for 350 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Mathias Price and Brayden Munroe on scoring plays.
On the other side of the ball, safety Cam Chapa anchored the defense with 10 tackles and an interception, which he returned 43 yards to set up a scoring drive. Chapa also earned honorable mention for the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.
The victory marks one of Northern Colorado's most significant wins in its Division I era and signals the team's continued progress under Lamb's leadership.
The Stats Perform FCS National Awards, now in their 39th year, will culminate with the FCS National Awards Show on Jan. 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Northern Colorado (3-3, 1-1 Big Sky) travels to face Sacramento State (2-3, 0-1 Big Sky) on Saturday at Hornet Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MDT on ESPN+.
