Regina Mpigachai Garners Weekly BSC Honor

FARMINGTON, Utah – Regina Mpigachai collected the Big Sky Conference Women's Runner of the Week award for her performance at the UIW Invitational, league officials announced Tuesday.
"We are extremely proud of Regina," Wayne Angel, UNC Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, said. "She has demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to achieve this coveted honor. Regina is rapidly establishing herself as one of the premier distance runners in the Big Sky Conference."
Mpigachai, a junior from Geita, Tanzania, ran a 16:49.4 in the 5K on the course at Wincrest Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas, Friday, Sept. 16.
She controlled the race from start to finish and gapped the field by over a minute, helping the Bears to a first-place finish in the team event.
Mpigachai and the rest of the Bears return to action Saturday, Sept. 21 at the Greeno-Dirksen Invite – hosted by Nebraska – in Lincoln, Nebraska.
