GREELEY, Colo. – Hunter Gibson tossed a quality start in Northern Colorado's 3-2 loss to North Dakota State at Jackson Field Sunday.
Following Friday's slugfest between the two squads, Gibson and North Dakota State's (9-21,6-5 Summit League) starter Logan Knight squared off in a pitcher's duel.
Gibson suffered the hard-luck loss for UNC (7-26-1,6-7-1 Summit League) in game two of the Summit League weekend series. He allowed two runs – one earned – over 6 and 1/3 innings. Gibson scattered three hits and walked three; while striking out two.
UNC tallied one run, on six hits and one walk in 7.0 innings against Knight, who earned his third win of the campaign.
The Bears outhit North Dakota State 9-6, with Kai Wagner leading the way with three knocks in four at-bats and a run scored. Garrett Fisher went 2 for 3, with a run-batted-in. Carson Gross, Caden Wagner, Austin Bunn and Jake King accounted for one hit each.
North Dakota State moved in front with a solo tally in the third.
Kai Wagner evened the contest at one when he scored on an RBI single by Fisher in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bison moved in front 3-1, capitalizing on miscues by UNC, posting an unearned run in both the seventh and eighth frames.
Bunn tripled off the fence in right-center with one down in the Bears' final at-bats. He cut the deficit to 3-2 when he crossed the plate on a flare into center field. Joey Danielson, the Bisons' closer who took the loss Friday, struck out the next two batters to even the series at one game apiece.
