Bears 2025 Season Review
GREELEY, Colo. – The 2025 season for Northern Colorado baseball was a blend of growth and resilience as the Bears navigated a mix of veteran experience and youthful talent. Competing in the Summit League, UNC finished with an 18-33 overall record and a 9-21 mark in conference play. Despite challenges, the team showed flashes of its potential, especially in the season's final stretch.
The Bears picked up some impressive non conference victories, securing wins over Utah Tech, New Mexico, and Nevada. They also delivered dominant performances in their mid-week matchups, sweeping Air Force in four matchups.
Craig Kenny (Catcher) and Jake King (Outfield) earned All-Summit League Second Team honors, while Kai Wagner (Third Base) and Murphy Gienger (Pitcher) received Honorable Mention. Kenny posted a .297 average with 20 RBIs, King hit .322 with 25 RBIs, Wagner led the team with 31 RBIs, and Gienger led the staff with 55 strikeouts.
Off the field, five Bears earned 2025 NCAA Division I Academic All-District honors for their academic excellence: Jake Storey (3.98 GPA), Trevor Landen (3.87 GPA), Brandon Sanchez (3.93 GPA), Kai Wagner (3.84 GPA), and Tony Castonguay (3.86/4.00 GPA).
Additionally, Tony Castonguay was a finalist for the inaugural Tony Gwynn Trophy, which honors student-athletes excelling in academics, athletics, and community service. Despite a serious injury, Castonguay has been a standout both on the field and through his nonprofit work with WeAreOneMovement.
As the Bears look toward the offseason, the team is set to build on this year's progress and continue its upward momentum. The program has strengthened its academic reputation and laid a solid foundation for future success. With a strong returning core and a wealth of young talent gaining valuable experience, UNC is primed to make a competitive push for the Summit League title in 2026.
