UNC Tops Sac State 3-1 in Series Finale

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado used a dominant pitching performance from Erin Caviness and an opportunistic offense, and the Bears defeated Sacramento State 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Big Sky Conference action.
Amailee Morales put the Bears on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single up the middle to score Abby Gaona.
The Hornets tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning, but the Bears responded in the bottom of the frame.
Morales added her second RBI of the game, this time with a double to left-center field to score Quinn Myers-Lenz. Morales scored later in the inning on a passed ball.
Caviness kept the Hornets' offense off-balance. The senior tossed a complete game and scattered seven hits allowed no walks and struck out seven batters.
As a team, the Bears produced seven hits.
Morales finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and walked once. Abby Gaona finished 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Alison Steinker, Nya Chacon, and Myers-Lenz each collected a hit.
The Bears return to action next weekend at Montana for a Big Sky Conference series.
