OMAHA, Neb. – Northern Colorado split its doubleheader at Creighton on Friday at the Big Red Spring Invitational.
The Bears won game two 2-0 and dropped the opener 2-1.
Erin Caviness threw a complete-game shutout to propel the Bears past the Blue Jays. Caviness scattered three hits and fanned nine batters.
Alison Steinker delivered a home run in the top of the fourth to give Caviness all the run support she would need.
Ella Gonzales added an RBI single in the fifth inning to give the Bears an insurance run.
Steinker finished 2-for-2. Alyssa Wenzel, Jaycie Gandert, and Nya Chacon each batted 1-for-3.
In the series opener, the Bears received a strong pitching performance from Araya Ogden. She tossed a complete game allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) and struck out seven batters.
Steinker recorded an RBI single in the top of the seventh for the Bears.
The Bears return to action on Saturday and return to Lincoln to play North Dakota at 12:30 p.m.
