Mpigachai Named Luna's Taco UNC Student-Athlete of the Week

GREELEY, Colo. – Regina Mpigachai earned the Luna's Taco University of Northern Colorado Student-Athlete of the Week after her performance at the NCAA DI Mountain Regionals, athletics department leadership announced Monday.
"My staff and I are incredibly proud of Regina's achievement at the NCAA Cross Country Mountain Regionals," UNC Director of Track & Field and Cross Country. "It is a testament to her dedication! She continues to fuel Northern Colorado's reputation as a haven for athletic excellence, a culture of success and breaking barriers as UNC's first cross country athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships."
Mpigachai placed third at 19:54.4, securing her spot in the NCAA DI National Championships in Madison, Wisconsin, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, Saturday, Nov. 23.
The Geita, Tanzania junior secured the first individual qualifier for the NCAA Championships in the program's NCAA Division I era, which began in 2006.
She defeated every student-athlete from Colorado and the Big Sky Conference.
Mpigachai helped the Bears to the highest-ever finish at the NCAA Regionals, placing 14th in the 19-team field.
She runs at the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, in Madison, Wisconsin, Saturday, Nov. 23 at 8:20 a.m.
