ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: The Wildcat Invitational is in its third season. Sam Houston won the inaugural tournament with an even-par 864 in 2021. George Clarke of Kansas City claimed the individual title with a 6-under par 210. Kansas State collected the team and individual hardware last season, tallying a 27-under par 837 as a team, while Cooper Schultz shot an 11-under 205.
Â
ABOUT THE EISENHOWER BLUE COURSE: Opened May 1, 2000, when Lee Trevino, Raymond Floyd, Annika Sorenstam and Deb Richard joined their host, K-Stater Jim Colbert, for the opening drives, chips and putts on the Colbert Hills Golf Course. Now 20 years later, the facility is recognized as Kansas' premier public golf layout by Golf Digest, while Golf & Leisure and Maximum Golf have recognized Colbert Hills as one of the top 100 golf values in the United States. In 2010 a $5.5 million clubhouse was dedicated to complete Colbert's "world class golf course" vision. Colbert, who personally designed the $11 million golf facility along with Jeffrey Brauer created the course with 14 holes that any decent golfer could identify, so the challenge was to fit in the other four holes within the design so people would not know which four they were. Roughly 375,00 rounds have been played on the par-72, 7,525-yard championship course since it opened, plus another 75,000 on the Par 3 Course. The signature hole of Colbert Hills is the 600-yard No. 7 that includes a 90-foot drop from the tee to fairway with white premium sand bunkers decorating the stretch of green zoysia fairway all the way to the bent grass green. Each hole has five different tee boxes while the greens average 10,000 square feet. Colbert Hills hosted the 2002 Big 12 Women's Championship, the 2003 NCAA Men's Central Regional and the 2005 Kansas Men's Amateur Championship.
