Bears Post Lowest Final Round at Wildcat Invitational

MANHATTEN, Kan. – Gage Messingham and Pietro Boeris each fired a 2-under par 70 in the final round of the Wildcat Invitational – hosted by Kansas State – at Colbert Hills Golf Course (par 72/7,525 yards) Monday.
The Bears shot 3-under as a team, the only squad to finish under par over the final round. They moved up four spots in the team standings, equalling Oakland at 884 for ninth, one shot ahead of Boise State and seven in front of South Dakota. UNC trailed eighth-place Drake by two shots, and seventh-place South Dakota State by six strokes.
TJ Shehee inked an even-par 72, while Peter Grossenbacher's 1-over par 73 capped the scoring.
Messingham eagled the par-five 16, following birds on the two previous holes. He birdied the par-five seventh as well. Messingham placed 19th at 1-over 217 for the event, after shooting a 74 and 73 Sunday.
Boeris carded his third and fourth rounds under par in two events this fall, notching five birdies Monday. He opened with a 71 during the morning session Sunday, before closing the day with a 77. His 218 placed him in a three-way tie for 22nd, one shot behind Messingham.
Grossenbacher (73-78-73=223) tied for 42nd, with seven other participants, while Shehee (82-76-72=230) earned a three-way tie for 68th.
Alessio Battista shot a 241 (78-79-84=241) over the 54-hole tournament, placing 80th.
