Smith Throws Complete-Game Shutout; UNC Crushes St. Thomas 10-0

GREELEY, Colo. – UNC used its explosive offense and dominant pitching to dispatch St. Thomas 10-0 Saturday afternoon in Summit League action from Jackson Field.
On the mound, the Bears received a standout effort from freshman Dylan Smith. The Bakersfield, California native tossed a complete game shutout and scattered four hits, allowing one walk while tying a career-high with six strikeouts.
The Bears jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead. Caden Wagner started the scoring with an RBI single to center field and the Bears scored two runs on an error by the UST center fielder. Bryce Moore completed the scoring in the inning with an RBI.
UNC scored six runs in its half of the eighth inning to induce the seven-inning, 10-run mercy rule.
Zain Zinicola delivered a two-RBI single to center field and Wagner followed that with a bases-clearing triple to score two.
Kenny tripled to right field to score Wanger and Moore doubled to right field to push across the game-ending run.
As a team, the Bears produced 12 hits. Wagner finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, Moore batted 2-for-5 with two RBI, Kenny finished 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Zinicola batted 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Jake King batted 1-for-3 and walked twice, while Carson Gross finished 1-for-1 and walked twice.
UNC and UST complete their conference series Sunday at noon.
