ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Northern Colorado freshman hurdler Jerome Campbell became UNC's first Division I Track and Field finalist and First Team All-American recipient after taking seventh in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday night.
After setting a personal best in the 60m hurdle prelims, Campbell was the quickest out of the blocks during the finals. Unfortunately, his early lead would not hold and Campbell finished the race with a time of 7.99 for seventh place.
"I am so proud of Jerome, his race may not have turned out as he would of liked, but he competed on the biggest stage of his young career and earned First Team All-American," director of track and field Wayne Angel said. "He has a bright future ahead of him. One race doesn't define who he is. Jerome had a dream season, one that we are all proud of. This is a great moment for Jerome, Northern Colorado, Greeley and Jamaica. We are so proud of him".
Campbell is the second First Team All-American at Northern Colorado since the Bears moved to Division I in 2006, joining wrestler Justin Gaethje who was named All-American in 2010.
His time of 7.58 in the prelims is ranked 19th in the world this season, and is both the Big Sky and Northern Colorado record for the 60m hurdles. He also becomes the 26th DI All-American coached under Angel.
