PUEBLO, Colo. -- Fighting through blustery winds and cold temperatures, the Northern Colorado track and field teams begin their outdoor season at the Spank Blasing Invitational hosted by CSU Pueblo.
"After battling the elements all day, the Bears that were able to compete in their respective events, safely competed very well, and accomplished their tasks assigned by their event coaches," assist coach Stormie Sickkler said. "It's hard to go out in 35-degree temps with 30mph winds and expect big performances to show from the clock. So we used today as a day to work on the technical aspect of events. We are very satisfied with the athletes who were able to perform under the weather conditions.
"Transitioning from indoor to outdoor season can be tricky, especially in the early parts of the year in Colorado. It's typically a "rust buster" as we call it, with competing in different events and overcoming uncontrollable's such as the weather. However, our Bears showed up, worked hard and above all really supported one another! Overall we are happy with what we were able to accomplish today, it's early in the outdoor season and we have time to progress in all areas. We're looking forward to competing again next weekend at CSU!"
