Bears Fall to Akron in Extra Innings

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Northern Colorado softball team lost 7-1 to Akron in an eight-inning game on Sunday, as the Bears wrapped up competition at the Whataburger Invitational.
Carson Fischer helped the Bears get on the board early, as she singled to right field to score Lauren Strathearn. In the third, the Zips tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
Neither side could string enough hits together to score through the next four innings, and UNC played in extra innings for the first time this season. Unfortunately, Akron put together six runs on five hits and one error to take commanding lead in the top of the eighth.

Northern Colorado heads to San Jose, Calif., for the Silicon Valley Classic, Feb. 24-26. UNC opens play on Friday taking on Saint Mary's College at 2 p.m. (MT) and San Jose State at 7 p.m.
