Caviness Sets UNC Strikeout Record in Win Against Stonehill

GREELEY, Colo. -- With 16 strikeouts in a complete-game win against Stonehill College last Saturday, Feb.11, senior pitcher Erin Caviness set the Northern Colorado program record for most strikeouts in a single game.Â
"Erin really stayed poised and consistent, and threw a great game," head coach Dedeann Pendleton-Helm said of Caviness' performance. "We are so excited that she now holds the strikeout record."
Caviness started the game against the Skyhawks with three-straight strikeouts in the first inning, before picking up two more in the second. In the third, Caviness struck out the first batter looking before getting the second swinging. In the fourth, Caviness again struck out all three batters, getting the first looking. In the fourth, Caviness picked up two more strikeouts for her 11th and 12th K's. In the sixth, she picked up one more strikeout before breaking the record in the bottom of the seventh, striking out three despite conceding one hit.
The previous record of 15 strikeouts was set by Meghan Golden agaisnt Incarnate Word on March 19, 2022.
