Bears Earn Second Win Over Stonehill

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The Northern Colorado softball team earned its second-straight win, defeating Stonehill College, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon. The Bears are now 2-3 to start the season having completed the La Jolla Invitational.
After the Bears shutout Stonehill on Saturday, the Skyhawks got on the board first with a two run homer in the top of the third.
Northern Colorado then responded in the fourth as Alexsi Barashkoff hit a sac fly to drive home Paola Villegas to get UNC on the board.
UNC then added three more runs in the sixth to take the 4-2 lead. Angelique Navarro singled to score Carson Fischer, before Lauren Strathearn drove home Ella Gonzales with a single of her own.
Sophomore Isabelle DiNapoli pitched the complete game, giving up just one earned run on two hits, while striking out nine batters.

"It was great to finish the weekend with a win. Isabelle pitched a great game and Angelique stepped up with a clutch hit to put us ahead. We had a set of goals for the weekend and overall we met each one. We showed great energy all weekend and we just need to continue to build and grow each week."

UNC heads to Stephenville, Texas for the Tarleton Invitational next weekend, Feb. 17-19. The Bears start the weekend with a doubleheader against Texas A&M Commerce and Tarleton State.

- Lauren Strathearn hit 400 over the weekend, scoring one run and recording one RBI.
- Nya Chacon was the third Bear to hit over .300 for the weekend, going 2-for-6 (.333), scoring one run.
- Both pitchers, Isabelle DiNapoli and Erin Caviness recorded a 2.33 ERA for the weekend, and both recorded one win and one loss.
