Bears Make First Road Trip of the Season to Kansas State
8/19/2022 3:00:00 PM | Women's Soccer
GREELEY, Colo.-Â Coming off a dominating victory over Wyoming to become back-to-back Front Range Derby Champions, Northern Colorado Soccer will travel to Kansas State on Sunday.
Â
After starting the season off with a bang, UNC will now look to leverage their recent momentum as they take on Big 12 opponents, the Wildcats, on the road.
Â
Scouting the Wildcats
The Kansas State Wildcats go into their match against the Bears with a 0-1 record after falling to Northwestern, 2-1. They split their preseason exhibitions by defeating Missouri State and coming up short against Wyoming. In 2021, Kansas State recorded an overall record of 6-10-2 and a 1-6-2 conference mark in the Big 12.
Â
Head Coach Mike Dibbini's team put up one goal courtesy of freshman Sophie Harlan in their season opener against Northwestern and tabbed eight total shots, two of which were on goal. Harlan is one of 12 freshmen that will round out the Wildcats' roster for the 2022 campaign. Notable K-State returners this season include Alaina Werremyer who earned Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week Honors last season and last year's team-leading scorer with six goals, Maddie Weichel.
Â
History Against Kansas State
UNC and K-State will compete for the first time in program histories come Sunday afternoon. While they have played many of the same opponents over the years, the Bears and Wildcats have never crossed paths. Northern Colorado now looks to add a victory over a brand-new opponent to their repertoire on unfamiliar turf in Manhattan.
Â
The match is slated for noon MT and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
