Harold Simmons to stay on the UNC Softball staff
GREELEY, Colo. – Dedeann Pendleton-Helm is keeping a familiar face on her staff as Harold Simmons will continue to be an assistant coach for the Northern Colorado softball program.
"I could not be more thrilled to have not only retained but to have promoted Harold Simmons as an assistant on this coaching staff. Harold is passionate and driven and cares deeply about UNC, the softball program, and each of the student-athletes," Pendleton-Helm said. "Our coaching philosophy and values closely align making this hire a clear decision. Coach Simmons brings knowledge and experience as well as a deep commitment and care to our UNC softball program that will undoubtedly contribute to our future success. I feel honored to work side by side with him and cannot wait to see what we build together."
Simmons originally joined the staff in 2020. Northern Colorado qualified twice for the Big Sky Tournament in his first three seasons with the only miss being due to the cancelation of the season due to COVID-19. A total of 10 Bears have earned All-Big Sky honors with Simmons on staff including Mady Young and Erin Caviness making the first team in 2021. Simmons has also been an integral part of UNC's recruiting over the past three seasons.
"Right away I thought Coach P was the perfect hire for our UNC Softball program," Simmons said. "After getting a chance to sit and talk with Coach, I knew right away that she would be a great fit for me and my family. I am very thankful to continue to be a Bear and work with such an amazing person!"
Before joining the staff at Northern Colorado, Simmons spent 12 years as the head baseball coach at Erie High School and his final five as the softball coach too.
Simmons and his wife Amber have two girls Brooklyn and Avery.
