SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After an incredible sophomore campaign, Shaydon Kubo has been awarded First Team All-Summit League on Tuesday.
Kubo, the Bears' everyday second baseman, was a thorn in the side of each and every conference opponent this season.
Across Northern Colorado's 24 Summit League contests, Kubo boasted a .369 average, good enough for fourth-best in the conference. The Waipahu, Hawaii native also finished third in slugging (.602), fourth in OPS (1.014), first in hits (38), first in RBI (29), second in doubles (9), seventh in runs scored (21) and sixth in home runs (5).
Twenty different times in 2022, Kubo recorded a multi-hit effort at the dish, including a four-hit effort at K-State. Not to mention, Shaydon owned the team's longest hit streak of the season at 13 games.
Against Summit League foe Western Illinois, Kubo impressively stacked up five RBI as the Bears out-swung the Leathernecks, 14-13. In fact, his performance that weekend led UNC in home runs (2), doubles (2), hits (8), RBI (10) and was tied for first in runs scored (6). In 14 plate appearances on the weekend, the young man only struck out once. All of which added up to a Summit League Player of the Week Award.
Defensively, Kubo also secured a .966 fielding percentage with a team-high 107 assists and 21 double plays.
The award is Kubo's first All-Conference honor.
