King's big day not enough to find a win at Saint Louis for Bears Baseball

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Northern Colorado found bright spots in both games of the doubleheader against Saint Louis but weren't able to find a win on day two in the City of Arches.
GAME 1
Saint Louis struck first in the bottom of the first inning but after picking up its first win of the season on Friday, the Bears proved they had some fight in them.
Freshman Jake King led the second off with a single. Two batters later, Craig Kenny doubled to left field and the speed King managed to make it all the way home to tie the game at one.
SLU pushed runners across in the bottom end of the second and the third but the resilient UNC squad bounced back again in the fourth.
Again it was King who would ignite things with a lead-off walk. Once Cameron Cromer reached, Lincoln Turner drove them both in with a two-RBI double.
It was one of two doubles Turner would card in the game.
The home side stretched its lead to 7-3 with a three-run response to the Bears' effort.
On the mound, Ian Torpey pitched 3.1 innings and recorded three strikeouts before Owen Lockner took over.
However, head coach Carl Iwasaki's crew wasn't done yet.
The two sides traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings, leaving the margin at four, 8-4, heading into the final frame.
UNC's man of Missouri rose to the occasion once more. Keeping the late rally going, King produced a two-RBI single that scored both Josh Glenn and Hayden Heinze, bringing Northern Colorado within one.
That's where the rally would end, though, as the Bears ran out of time to complete the comeback.
GAME 2
Despite ending game one with a bit of momentum, it was Saint Louis who jumped out to the early lead once again.
Four runs in the first inning and three in the second put UNC behind the eight-ball on Saturday afternoon.
Once the dust settled, so did the Northern Colorado defense.
Ashton Mansur picked up the tab in the first inning. After calming things down, the senior from Littleton found a bit of rhythm on the bump. Mansur pitched 5.0 full innings, struck out one, gave up three runs (one earned) and refused to surrender a walk.
It took until the seventh inning for the Bears to get on the scoreboard. Hayden Heinze's lead-off walk allowed Glenn to bring him home after two wild pitches.
The late run was just too little, too late for Northern Colorado, though as UNC dropped the second game of the day, 7-1.
Game Notes
What's Ahead
Northern Colorado will play one more against the Billikens on Sunday. Iwasaki and the Bears finally return to Greeley on March 11 for a series with Mount Marty College.
