Gale's Big Day Helps Bears Earn Split

Peyton Gale tallied six RBIs in two games Friday
GREELEY, Colo. -- Â Freshman Peyton Gales hit her first two career home runs on Friday as Northern Colorado softball split its two games against Utah Valley and Wisconsin. The Bears won the opener 9-4 over UVU while falling in nine innings to UW 5-4.
The Fredrick, Colorado native hit a pair of home runs in UNC's win. The first was a two-run shot in the fourth that put the Bears up 8-0. She followed up her next at-bat with a solo shot in the sixth extending the lead to 9-2. Both home runs were to the left-center gap.
Gale finished the game with five RBIs, also driving home a pair of runs in the third inning. She went 4-for-8 on the day overall with six RBIs and two runs scored.
Northern Colorado had a pair of four-run innings in the third and fourth that broke the game open.
Against Wisconsin UNC jumped out to the early lead scoring two in the bottom of the first thanks to a pair of Badger errors.
The lead grew to a 3-1 win when who else, but Gale singled that scored Carson Fischer.
UW scored a pair in the sixth and forced extras.
Both teams scored in the eight with UNC's run coming on a two-out RBI single from another freshman in Jaycie Gandert. Her speed beat out the throw for an infield single.
The Badgers once again scored a run in the top of the ninth and UNC was unable to answer.
Game Notes
- Erin Caviness picked up the win against Utah Valley going 6.2 strong innings striking out eight while allowing seven hits.
- Riley Plogger extended her hit streak to 13 games going 3-for-9 on the day with three runs scored and two RBIs.
- Kaileigh Holland had another impressive day at the plate going 4-for-4 with a run scored and batted in.
- Meghan Golden had an impressive outing in the circle pitching all nine innings against Wisconsin tallying seven strikeouts while throwing 165 pitches.
