Bears comeback effort falls short against NDSU

Looking to put Friday behind them, Jake King and the Bears went right down to business in the bottom of the first. King's lead-off double immediately put UNC in scoring position. After Kubo moved him to third, Josh Glenn forced an error out of the NDSU defense to give his team the lead, 1-0.
Starting pitcher Iain Isdale worked through the first three innings with a solid effort. Stranding three batters across those first three frames, Isdale blanked the Bison and gave Northern Colorado the opportunity to pile onto the lead.
Glenn kickstarted a two-out rally in the bottom end of the third with a single through the left side. Two batters later it was Caden Wagner's third RBI of the season that double the Bears' advantage.
North Dakota State put up a four-spot with a three-run home run in the top of the fourth but Carl Iwasaki's Bears weren't about to give in just yet.
Cade Moeller put the pressure on with a single and a second error from the Bison let Shaydon Kubo dance home to pull within one, 4-3.
In the meantime, it was Owen Lockner who took the keys in the fifth inning. Pitching 3.0 scoreless innings, the freshman gave up just one hit while striking out two, keeping UNC within striking distance.
A battle of the Summit League Player of the Week and Pitcher of the week went down in the bottom of the sixth. Husting down the line to first, Kubo beat out the through to earn the game-tying RBI that brought home Cameron Cromer.
NDSU vaulted back in front with a five-run eighth inning, leaving another mountain for the Bears to climb.
Cade Moeller dialed up a sacrifice fly in the ninth to bring home King but UNC's comeback effort fell just short as the Bison picked up its second win of the weekend, 9-5.
