Baseball returns to Jackson with more Summit League action on tap

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Baseball looks to keep its conference success flowing as old rival North Dakota State rolls into Jackson Field.

Leading Off
Northern Colorado's middle infield has reclaimed the double-play lead after recording two more in two games against Utah. The Bears have turned two 16 times this season, the most in the Summit and 42nd-most in the nation.
Ian Torpey has the ability to be a strikeout machine. The right-handed sophomore is averaging 11.25 strikeouts per nine innings which ranks as the most in the conference and No. 126 in the country.
For the third time in the last 10 years, Northern Colorado has swept its opening series in conference play. The last time UNC swept its conference opener was in 2017. That team went on to win 24 games and claimed two victories in the WAC Tournament.
Cade Moeller lives on the base path. The sophomore left fielder has reached base safely in 14 straight games.
Last Time Out
Chase Cromer produced two of his best outings of the year, claiming four RBI across two games at Utah. The Bears fought tooth and nail in game No. 2 but came up one run short of an upset.
Scouting the Bison
First-year head coach Tyler Oakes has his squad rolling entering North Dakota State's first weekend of Summit League play. The Bison have won three straight games, including five of its last six with wins over Fairfield, Maine and Florida Atlantic.
It'll be reining Summit League Pitcher of the Week versus the Player of Week. While Shaydon Kubo picked up player of the week honors for the Bears, reliever Tristen Roehrich was tabbed as pitcher of the week for NDSU. Roehrich grabbed a win and a save while striking out six in two appearances last week.
Oakes' Bison stay active on the base pads. Entering the weekend, NDSU is sixth in the nation in sacrifice bunts and 13th in stolen bases.
Calen Schwabe leads the way offensively, hitting a robust .348 in his 17 starts. Schwabe's stats include a Summit League-best five sacrifice bunts.
North Dakota State isn't without power. Senior Logan Williams' six home runs lead the conference and are top-75 in the country entering the weekend.
History against North Dakota State
In a series that dates back to 1962, the Bears and Bison have been going toe-to-toe for six decades. Northern Colorado owns a 20-18 record versus North Dakota State, including a 15-18 mark at Jackson Field.
UNC and NDSU not only split last year's four-game series but are also an even 4-4 over the last eight matchups.
