Men's Basketball hosts Northern Arizona for Monday Madness

UNC men's basketball hosts NAU in a doubleheader with women's basketball
GREELEY, Colo. – It is Monday Madness inside Bank of Colorado Arena on Monday as both UNC men's and women's basketball teams host games. The men will tip-off at 7:30 pm against Northern Arizona following the women's game at 5:30 pm against Portland State. Purchase tickets to the games at UNCBears.com/Tickets.
Opening Tip
- Matt Johnson II sank his fourth three-pointer of the game with 0.5 seconds left to lift UNC over NAU Saturday afternoon 74-71.
- The 12-point comeback was the biggest come from behind victory for Northern Colorado against Idaho State on December 22, 2020, when they also came back from 12 points down.
- Johnson II finished the game a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc to score 17 points with a career-high-tying seven assists and led the team with four assists and three steals.
- Daylen Kountz had his four straight 20-point game with a game-high 24 points on Saturday. Twenty of those 24 points came in the second half.
-Kountz and Johnson II scored the final 18 points for the team.
- Kountz continues to lead the Big Sky in scoring averaging 20.7 points per game and ranks 14th in the nation.
- Dru Kuxhausen scored in double figures for the sixth straight game with 12 points. He is second in the Big Sky in threes per game with 3.14 and percentage at 44.2%. Kuxhausen also ranks in the top 25 in the nation in each category.
- Kuxhausen scored his 1,000th point of his career on Saturday. Two hundred and fifty-four of them have come in the UNC Blue & Gold.
- Monday's game features the top two scorers in the Big Sky with Daylen Kountz & Jalen Cone.
Scouting the Lumberjacks
It has been an up and down season for Northern Arizona enters Monday with an 8-14 record. The Lumberjacks are 4-7 in Big Sky. Their past two wins have come against Sacramento State including a 62-61 win in Sacramento last Thursday.
Transfer Jalen Cone has been lighting up the scoreboard for NAU this year averaging 19.3 points per game. The second most in the Big Sky. He did a little of everything for Northern Arizona on Saturday scoring 19 points and dishing out 11 assists.
Northern Arizona is a solid rebounding team averaging 37.1 per game to rank third in the conference.
Around the Big Sky
It was an eventful Saturday night in the Big Sky. Montana State moved into a first-place tie Weber State by defeating the Wildcats on their home court 78-57. Idaho State upset Montana 86-63 in Pocatello and Southern Utah defended its home court against Eastern Washington 84-72. Monday night features another key game with Montana hosting SUU.

Northern Colorado looks to avenge one of its Big Sky losses when they travel to Sacramento State on Thursday for an 8 pm MT tip.
