MORAGA, Calif. – Northern Colorado once again showed flashes of positive signs on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball but weren't able to keep pace with Saint Mary's, falling 12-0.
While starting pitcher Jayden Metz didn't tally the number of strikeouts he did during his first start in the Blue and Gold, the Sienna transfer found a way to be productive nonetheless.
In 4.2 innings of work, Metz struck out one but allowed just three runs, two of them earned.
Freshman Jake King continued to swing the bat well after a hit and a run scored in Friday's affair. King finished with a team-high two hits, including a double.
After throwing 6.1 scoreless innings against Pacific a week ago, Kevin Sharp stepped in a tough moment with a couple of runners in scoring position in the fifth. Sharp once again delivered the goods. Although the young-right hander surrendered three runs, none of them were earned.
Right behind sharp, Owen Lockner pitched a perfect seventh inning, retiring the side in order.
Three runs in the sixth inning and six in the eighth eventually put the game out of reach for the Bears who fell, 12-0.
