UNC Track and Field Set to Compete in Potts Invitational and Corky Classic

Northern Colorado track and field split up between Texas and Colorado

GREELEY, Colo.- Coming off of record-breaking performances at the Gene Edmonds Invitational, UNC Track and Field looks to keep their winning ways alive as they head into two meets this weekend.

The Bears will split up and compete at the Potts Invitational hosted by the University of Colorado and the Corky Classic hosted by Texas Tech on Friday and Saturday.

As the team heads to Boulder, they will face off against some familiar regional foes including Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force, and Colorado Christian.

Those headed to Lubbock include two record breakers, Regina Mpigachai and Welre Oliver. Currently ranked No. 1 in the Big Sky, Mpigachai enters the Corky Classic after breaking a national record with a time of 4:51.96 in the mile run last week. Oliver, ranked No. 1 in the Big Sky and No. 9 in the NCAA, looks to keep the wins coming after breaking a school record in the triple jump, that had previously been held since 1991.

Tyler Thimsen will also leverage a notable performance from last week in the triple jump and a Big Sky third place ranking in Lubbock this weekend. Other athletes coming off of impressive performances that they hope to bring to Texas are Jesse Hayward in the 600 meters, Steven Cross in the 60m hurdles, and Melodie Leroudier and Chloe Rylance in the mile. Qwazon Al-Khaliq, a transfer from Kennesaw State and NCAA regional qualifier, will also make his debut as a Bear in Lubbock.

The Bears will be competing alongside Texas Tech, Arizona, Baylor, and Texas State at the Corky Classic.
