GREELEY, Colo. – With non-conference wrapped up, Northern Colorado barrels toward Big Sky play with a road trip to Southern Utah and Northern Arizona.

Scouting the Thunderbirds
Head coach Kai Edwards enters his first full season in Cedar City. Edwards arrived at Southern Utah last spring following six seasons with Saint Mary's.
The Thunderbirds won its season-opener against Hope International University but have since dropped seven consecutive matches. However, each of its last five has been decided by one goal, including matches against San Jose State and Colorado College.
Goalkeeper Megan Short has been a force between the sticks for SUU. The redshirt-freshman from Mission Viejo, California ranks second in the Big Sky Conference in save percentage (.828), saves per game (8.00) and total saves (48).
History against Southern Utah
Since joining the Big Sky, Northern Colorado has enjoyed success in most of its matchups with the Thunderbirds. UNC enters the weekend with a 6-1-1 record against Southern Utah. Each of the last four matches has gone to the Bears by a score of 3-1.
Scouting the Lumberjacks
Northern Arizona is another Big Sky school that played a rigorous non-conference slate. The Lumberjacks faced two Pac-12 teams, two programs from the Mountain West and a stout Denver squad from The Summit.
Head coach Kylie Louw is in her third year at the helm in Flagstaff. Louw has mustered no less than a .500 record in each of her first two. This season, she brings an NAU team into conference play as the No. 1 offensive team in the conference. Northern Arizona ranks first in scoring offense (1.89 goals per game), shots per game (13.89), shots on goal per game (7.56), total goals (17), and total points (45).
Among those guiding the offense include senior Madison Montgomery. The 2020 United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team member is pacing the Big Sky with 2.33 shots on goal per game and a blistering 3.56 shots per game.
History against Northern Arizona
The Bears and Lumberjacks have battled evenly since their first matchup in 2005. In fact, exactly even. UNC is 9-9-1 versus Northern Arizona, enjoying most of its success at home (7-2-1). Last season, Northern Colorado walked away with a win and a tie as the two played back-to-back matches in the shortened spring season. The Bears' last win in Flagstaff was a 2-1 overtime win in 2015.
Last Time Out
Northern Colorado wrapped up its non-conference slate with Washington State over the weekend. Despite giving up three first-half goals, the Bears buckled down to shut out the Cougs in the final 60 minutes of play.
