Soccer takes show on the road to Utah State and Utah

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado Soccer heads toward a Beehive State double-feature this weekend. The Bears face Utah State on Thursday evening and then head north to Salt Lake City for the second-ever meeting with Utah on Sunday.

Scouting the Aggies
Utah State has taken on two Big Sky opponents already this season. The Aggies tied Idaho State, 0-0, and beat Northern Arizona, 2-1.
Head coach Manny Martins enters his first year at the helm of the USU program. He inherits a roster that includes 17 returning letterwinners and nine returning starters. Among those coming back to Logan is sophomore All-Conference second team selection Kelsey Steed.
USU also returns its top goalscorer in Ashley Cardozo. Cardozo tallied 10 points last season and has already bagged a goal in 2021.
History against Utah State
In just four meetings the Aggies, the Bears hold a record of 1-3-0. Northern Colorado last beat Utah State, 1-0, in Logan back in 2012.
Scouting the Utes
UNC will face another rookie head coach in Hideki Nakada. Nakada takes over a program that went 9-4-3 a season ago and returns 20 letterwinners.
Among those back in Salt Lake City include Taliana Kaufusi who was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team.
The Utes also welcome back Courtney Talbot who garnered a team-high six assists last season and scored a goal to compile eight points.
History against Utah
It's been 26 years since UNC and Utah met for the first and only time. The Utes took the matchup, 3-2, in Salt Lake City.
Last Time Out
The Bears finished up the Colorado Cup with a tie against Air Force down in Denver. Senior goalkeeper Morgan Bury racked up eight saves, one shy of tying her career-high. The Laramie, Wyoming native has tallied 13 saves across two games. With the tie, the Bears secured a third-place finish in the cup standings.

Northern Colorado has never lost (2-0-1) on August 26 and beat in-state rival Colorado State, 1-0, the last time they play on the date in 2016. Conversely, the Bears are 1-3 on August 29.
