Bears battle Utes to the wire

OGDEN, Utah – With a week off of WAC play, Northern Colorado Baseball took on Power Five Utah. Despite putting up two separate two-spots, it was the Utes that took home the victory, 8-5.
Under the lights of Lindquist Field, home of the Ogden Raptors, Utah jumped on top of the Bears, scoring two runs on two hits to take the early lead.
Head coach Carl Iwasaki's Bears were ready to roll up its sleeves and go to work, though.
A Josh Glenn walk to lead off the second inning sparked two runs, including an excellent sacrifice bunt from Aiden Leahy to tie the game at two.
The home side tried to create some separation, scoring three runs over the third and fourth innings combined to lead, 5-2.
Northern Colorado starter Dylan Bowers pitched four solid innings, striking out six while walking just one.
Once more in the sixth inning, the Bears brought its bats to plate in hopes of a comeback.
This time, Sam Leach's double led to two more runs. Both Leach and Shaydon Kubo crossed the plate during the inning to draw UNC within one, 5-4.
Utah wasn't satisfied with its lead, however, as the Utes went on to post one more run in the seventh and an additional two in the eighth.
Though UNC pushed a run across on an error in the ninth, Saturday would not feature a heroic rally from the Bears, handing the first win of the series to Utah, 8-5.
