OGDEN, Utah – A windy Friday evening in Utah made things a tad bit difficult for both sides. With Weber State playing its postseason life, Northern Colorado held off every attack, earning the 0-0 draw and locking in a spot in next week's Big Sky Tournament.
Both teams created several opportunities from the start.
The Bears' high-flying forwards earned a pair of corner kicks inside the first ten minutes. Though Taylor Bray wasn't able to put her shot on target, it set the tone in the match's opening moments.
On the other side of the pitch, goalkeeper Ashley Franza was busy pitching a shutout. Though UNC's backline of Maddie Barkow, Lindsi Jennings, Erika Hall and Mackenzie Bray were working well in front of her, Franza delivered with massive saves when called upon.
The San Ramon, California native racked up seven key saves, matching her season-high against Idaho State.
Much of the middle part of the game featured half-chances from both teams. As the first half stretched into the second, Northern Colorado's back four refused to let the Wildcats through.
Their persistence paid off as the Bears forced Weber State into extra time.
Kalen Niedling and Kaitlyn Meeder caused problems down the left side all afternoon long, and as the minutes continued to tick off the clock, Northern Colorado's stamina and depth shone through.
In the end, UNC finished with six shots but held WSU to just two in overtime, solidifying the draw and spot in the Big Sky Tournament.
What They Said
Head Coach, Tim Barrera
"It was great to get a point on the road and lock in a spot for the Conference Tournament. Weber State is a tough team to play against and they gave us some problems to deal with throughout the afternoon.
"I thought we defended very well. Our back four played excellently and dictated the game from start to finish.
"We'll rest up and be ready to go for one more regular-season game on Sunday."
Game Notes
