Baseball drops series to GCU
4/11/2021 4:40:00 PM | Baseball
In a similar look to yesterday's games, GCU jumped on starting pitcher Sam Leach. Scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and two in the second, UNC played from behind all afternoon long.
Leach settled in and kept the Lopes at Bay in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Meanwhile, Ben McKay tried to kickstart the Northern Colorado offense with a solo shot over the left-field fence in the top of the fifth inning. McKay finished 2-4 on the afternoon.
Grand Canyon squeezed across a run in the sixth but the Bears began chipping away at the lead in the next half-inning.Top 5 | GOODBYE BASEBALL!! McKay leads off the inning with a solo shot!

Capitalizing on a pair of GCU errors, McKay and Johnny Graham both scampered across the plate.
The Bears even brought the tying run to the plate before a runner was caught stealing and strikeout ended the inning.Top 7 | Another run! Capitalizing on some errors here to continue to chip away!

Sensing a bit of momentum after ending the scoring threat, Grand Canyon struck for four before Paul Falco came in relief of Sam Colehower.
Falco ended the seventh and Sam Wyatt pitched a perfect eighth, giving the Bears one last crack at the Lopes.
There would be no rallying in Phoenix on Sunday as GCU went on to win its third game in a row, 10-3.
Game Notes
- Ben McKay launched his fourth home run of the year.
- Paul Falco and Sam Wyatt each pitched one full inning, giving up zero runs.
- Hayden Heinze grabbed his fourth RBI of the season.
- Northern Colorado pitchers stranded eight GCU runners.
