Kubo goes yard for first time but Bears can't topple Wildcats

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Shaydon Kubo provided some sparks in the Sunflower State, cracking his first career home run but it was Kansas State who rebounded to take the lead and the first of two games this week at Tointon Family Stadium, 8-2.
Freshman Iain Isdale earned his first start on the bump this season. K-State had pushed a runner all the way to third base in the opening frame but sharp fielding from Aiden Leahy ended the threat.
Isdale nearly got himself out of a bases-loaded jam in the second. Were it not for a throwing error, the game would've remained knotted at zero through two. However, the Wildcats snuck across two unearned runs to take the lead.
With Leahy standing on first after a single, Shaydon Kubo might not have been thinking one swing of the bat could tie the game but the Bears' second baseman connected on a full count for his first career home run, a two-run shot to left.
The home side answered swiftly, though, scoring two runs including a home run in the fourth and two more in the fifth, quickly extending its lead to four.
Kansas State squeaked across two more in the sixth but Paul Falco settled in to pitch a solid seventh and Logan Chase blanked the Wildcats in the eighth to give the Bears one last shot.
Despite a two-out walk from Lincoln Turner, there would be no midweek magic on Tuesday for Northern Colorado as Kansas State snagged the 8-2 victory.
