Northern Colorado softball faces four games at UTEP this weekend
GREELEY, Colo. – Only 348 days later and Northern Colorado softball finally returns to the field. The Bears face UTEP on Friday and Saturday with a pair of doubleheaders in El Paso, Texas to open the 2021 season. After the 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, UNC had to wait an extra week to start the 2021 season after their first games were canceled due to weather.
Leading Off

• The Bears enter the 2021 season on a four-game win streak and winners of six of their last seven games.
• Head coach Ben Garcia enters his third season at Northern Colorado. After winning 14 games in 2019, the Bears had already won 10 games when it was canceled in March due to COVID-19.
• The Bears were 21st in the nation in doubles with 43 and 24th in doubles per game with 1.72 in 2020.
• Mady Young returns after leading the team in extra base hits with 14. She was second on the team with a .372 batting average.
• Catcher Emma Brockmann led the Big Sky and ranked ninth in the NCAA with three sacrifice flies in 2020.
• Senior Natalie Joyner was a tough out in 2020, she never struck out over the 25-game season.
• Northern Colorado and UTEP are meeting for the first time since 2011. The Bears are 2-11 against the Miners.
• UTEP hosted No. 4 Oklahoma and Abilene Christian last week going 0-4.
• The Miners went 5-17 in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
