Tava Finau Named UNC Student-Athlete of the Week

Tava Finau earns the UNC Student-Athlete of the Week honor for September 3-10
GREELEY, Colo. – While there may not be any competitions this fall for the University of Northern Colorado Athletics, the student-athletes continue to achieve greatness in the classroom and the community. Each week one student-athlete will be selected as the Student-Athlete of the Week.
Tava Finau came to UNC in the fall of 2019 as a transfer from the University of Colorado. While he saw some playing time his first year as a Bear, he has caught the eye of the new coaching staff, particularly his position coach Tavares Bowens.
"Tava understands what he wants out of his life and he is going hard every day to achieve it," Bowens said. "We speak often about bringing honor to those we love by living a purpose-driven life. I love his focus and determination to be dominant in the classroom, He is setting a great example for his teammates and demonstrating Coach McCaffrey's vision for this football program."
Finau has stepped up as a leader for the defensive line unit. In the weight room, he has been pushing himself and his teammates to improve every day. He has brought that intensity to the classroom too. The psychology major booted his GPA to over a 3.0 since the start of the spring 2020 semester.
