GREELEY, Colo. – UNC Athletics announced today the hiring of Nick Maas as the next Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach. Maas will officially begin in the role on June 11.
Maas comes to Northern Colorado having served as Director of Cross Country and Track & Field at Wisconsin-Parkside since July 2019, leading the programs to record-breaking success and consistent contention in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and at the national level.
"We are thrilled to welcome Nick Maas and his family back to the great State of Colorado," said Darren Dunn, Director of Athletics. "Nick has built an impressive track record of success throughout his coaching career, and his leadership, vision, and commitment to student-athlete development make him an outstanding addition to our department. His experience will help elevate our programs while ensuring our student-athletes receive an exceptional experience both on and off the track. Please join me in welcoming Coach Maas, his wife, Mandi, and their daughter, Katelyn, to the Bear family."
Throughout his tenure, Maas has consistently developed student-athletes, producing school records, NCAA qualifiers, and numerous all-conference performers while establishing a culture of sustained competitive success.
"I am thrilled on becoming a part of the University of Northern Colorado," said Maas. "I want to thank Darren and the athletics staff for entrusting me with leading these programs. I know that we have quality student-athletes and I am looking forward to working with them as well as getting to know our alumni and engaging in the Greeley community."
Maas has developed a program at Wisconsin-Parkside that is highlighted by All-American performers and multiple NCAA Championship qualifiers. His team also earned All-Region recognition and delivered record-setting performances at the conference level, posting program-best scoring totals at both the indoor and outdoor championships in recent years.
Prior to Wisconsin-Parkside, Maas coached at MSU Denver and Western Illinois, developing dozens of record-holders and national qualifiers.
Maas graduated from Buena Vista University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in General Studies in 2004. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Exercise Science with a physiology emphasis from the University of Northern Iowa in 2006.
