Davis Career Day Leads UNC over Sacramento State

UNC women's advanced with a 79-61 win over Sacramento State in the Big Sky Tournament
BOISE, Idaho – Alisha Davis showed no nerves in her first-ever Big Sky Tournament game, scoring a career-high 32 points and grabbing 13 rebounds as Northern Colorado cruised past Sacramento State 79-61 in the first round. UNC advances to face top-seeded Montana State in the quarterfinals Tuesday at noon.
It was domination from the opening tip for the Bears as they had a 10-point lead by the end of the first quarter. Davis scored 12 in the quarter including five straight to cap off a 7-0 run.
The lead extended to 12 at the half as the team shot 60.0 percent from the field and outrebounded Sacramento State by 10.
Northern Colorado extended the lead to as much as 26 in the third quarter going on a 9-0 run behind freshmen Davis and Jasmine Gayles. Six of the nine points over the run came from Gayles. She finished the game with 11 points.
For the game, UNC shot 45.5 percent compared to 38.1 percent for Sacramento State.

The game plan was to go inside early and often and that's what Northern Colorado did. The Bears outscored Sacrament State in the paint 40-30, had a 15-0 second chance points advantage and outrebounded the Hornets 51-26.
Game Notes
- The 32 points by Davis are the second-most by a Bear in the Big Sky Tournament game. She only trails Savannah Smith and her 34 in the 2018 championship game against Idaho.
- Ali Meyer continues to stuff the stat sheet for UNC with 10 rebounds, four points and five assists.
- Alexis Chapman had a strong game scoring eight points to go with five rebounds and four rebounds.
- In case you missed it, Chapman was named third team All-Big Sky and Davis earned honorable mention announced Monday morning by the conference.

Northern Colorado advances to face regular season champion and top seed Montana State in the quarterfinals tomorrow at noon. The Bears and Bobcats just met last Friday in Greeley with MSU winning 73-63.
