UNC women's basketball season ended with a 67-62 game against Montana State
BOISE, Idaho – The tank hit empty on Tuesday afternoon, not because the season ended for Northern Colorado, but because they left it all on the court. Playing the top-seeded Montana State Bobcats, UNC gave MSU everything they could handle and more before coming up just short 67-61.
Freshman Jasmine Gayles led the Bears in scoring with a career-high-tying 21 points and matched her career-best with seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Alexis Chapman added in 14 points hitting key shots during the first half.
Ali Meyer showed why she was the heart of this team all season long, scoring just a single point, but had six steals, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Montana State landed the first punch in the heavyweight battle with a 7-0 run to go up 12-5. The Bears responded by outscoring the Bobcats 10-4 to end the half including a pair of big-time 3-pointers by Alexis Chapman.
The late run had UNC up 20-18 after the first quarter.
MSU led by three at half and grew it to as much as seven by the end of the third quarter, but Northern Colorado kept fighting back.
Down seven with 2:53 left UNC went on a quick 6-0 run in just 28 seconds to cut the deficit back to two. Senior Abby Kain led the charge scoring five of the six points for the Bears including an and-one offensive rebound opportunity.
Unfortunately, the Bears were unable to take the lead or tie the game after that as MSU made their free throws down the stretch escaping Northern Colorado's upset bid.
