Opening Tip
Alisha Davis is coming off her best performance of the season after a monster double-double (24 points, 14 rebounds).
Jasmine Gayles notched her first career double-double on Tuesday night against Denver (14 points, 10 rebounds).
Freshman guard Hannah Simental etched her best effort in the Blue and Gold, including the game-sealing free-throws in the final seconds.
The Bears bench has been downright dominant in its first three games, outscoring each opponent in the category.
UNC has been a beast in the paint this season. Last time out against Denver, the Bears outscored the Pios 42-28, en route to its first victory of the season.
Northern Colorado and Abilene Christian have met just once in the history of the two programs back in 1990. ACU represents a stern test as the 2019-20 Wildcats finished 24-5 and were a virtual lock for the NCAA Tournament before COVID-19 hit.
Scouting the Wildcats
ACU has some big shoes to fill with the graduation of Dominique Golightly and Breanna Wright (Wright was the Southland Player of the year). However, seniors Anna McLeod and Makayla Mabry landed on the preseason All-Southland Team.
Head coach Julie Goodenough returns two starters on a team that finished 24-5 a season ago and was a virtual lock for the NCAA tournament before COVID-19 hit. Goodenough, now in her ninth year at the helm, has never finished a season with a losing record.
History against Abilene Christian
UNC has only seen Abilene Christian once in program history. Back in 1990, the Bears got the best of the Wildcats, 80-73, in Greeley.
Against the Conference
Though the UNC and ACU have one previous matchup, both schools were in Division II at the time. Friday night's matchup represents the first Southland opponent for Northern Colorado.
On This Date
The Bears love to play on December 4. All-Time, Northern Colorado is 10-3 on the date with an impressive 6-0 record in Greeley. UNC first played on December 4 in 1976 against Wyoming, a game in which they won, 82-73.
What's Ahead?
Northern Colorado takes a week off for finals before kicking off Big Sky Play against Idaho State on December 14 and 16.
