Northern Colorado will stay in Montana for its second game of the road trip

The Montana road trip continues for Northern Colorado women's basketball, as the Bears travel to take on the Grizzlies Saturday. UNC looks to split its first Big Sky road trip of the season.

Opening Tip
Northern Colorado dropped to 1-1 in Big Sky play after falling to Montana State, 91-58, on Thursday The Bobcats exploited UNC's 22 turnovers and shot well in the second half to get the win. The Bears trailed by eight at halftime, but Montana St. would break the game open in the third quarter, holding UNC to eight points while scoring 17. The Bobcats finished strong in the game with a 68.4 percent shooting percentage in the final quarter, scoring 29 points. UNC was held to 21 points in the second half.

UNC pulled down 16 offensive rebounds against Montana St., leading to 18 second-chance points. Kadie Deaton and Ali Meyer each had four offensive boards in the game.

Alexis Chapman recorded her fourth straight game with double-digit scoring, finishing with 10 points against the Bobcats. She leads UNC with a 13.5-points per game average.

Alisha Davis had two blocks, giving her 23 total this season. She has accounted for 48 percent of the team's total blocks.

Scouting the Grizzlies
Montana is tied for the Big Sky lead with a 3-0 conference record so far. The Griz are 8-4 overall this season, going 4-2 at home. Montana is on a four game winning streak as well, with two home wins and two on the road. Starting out in conference, the Griz defeated Northern Arizona(79-71) and Sacramento State(64-60) on the road. Montana defeated Southern Utah on Thursday at home, 81-74. McKenzie Johnson is high-scorer for the Griz, averaging 13.0 points per game on 50 percent shooting. Emma Stockholm compliments Johnson with 10.7 points per game, with a 48.2 shooting percentage. Stockholm leads Montana with 5.8 rebounds per game.

History against Montana
Against the Griz, Northern Colorado holds a 12-17 record in program history. UNC is 5-7 in Greeley, 6-9 in Missoula and 1-1 at neutral sites.The Bears are currently on a six-game winning streak against the Griz, winning the last match-up, 79-61, in Greeley in February of 2019. Three of the wins have come at home, with two on the road and one during the Big Sky Tournament in the 2018 season.

In program history, UNC is 6-5 on January 4th. The Bears are 5-1 at home, while going 1-3 on the road and 0-1 in neutral site games. In January of 2018, UNC defeated Montana State at Bank of Colorado Arena, 82-69, in the team's last game on the 4th.
