Pair of Bears in top 10 of heptathlon at Big Sky Championship

McKenna McGrath and Mackenzie Pettit sit in the top 10 after day 1 of the heptathlon
MISSOULA, Mont. – The 2019 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships started on Wednesday with the first day of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. UNC has four entries in the heptathlon in McKenna McGrath, Mackenzie Pettit, Claire Harris and Allison Davis.
Through four events, McGrath has the best score of the four sitting in seventh place with 2,981 points. Her best event out of the 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 dash came in the high jump where she ended up third with a jump of 1.68m (5'6"). She was also one of three Bears to set a PR in the shot put. She had a throw of 9.44m (30' 11 ¾").
Along with McGrath, Harris and Davis also set PRs in the shot put. Harris had a throw of 9.41m (30' 10 ½") and Davis with one of 8.89m (29' 2"). Harris has 2,753 points through the first day to sit in 13th, while Davis has 1,886 to be in 18th.
Pettit sits in the top 10 in 10th with 2,808 points. Her top two events of the day were the 100 hurdles where she ran a 15.14 and the shot put with a throw of 10.39m (34' 1 ¼") to finish ninth in both events.
Montana's Erika McLeod sits in first place heading into tomorrows final three events with 3,260 points.
What's ahead
The heptathlon concludes tomorrow with the final three events in the long jump, javlin and 800 meter run. The long jump begins at 10:30 am and can be seen on Pluto TV.
