Northern Colorado missed on the Big Sky Championship against Weber St.
SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Northern Colorado softball left it all on the field this week in Sacramento as the 2019 season ended for the team. UNC fell in the championship game to the No. 1 seed Weber State, 8-0 in five innings.
"Unfortunately, we were not ready to play in the first innings, but you can't get that back," head coach Ben Garcia said.
The Wildcats unloaded in the top of the first, scoring six runs on six hits off of Valerie Vidal, making her fifth start of the tournament.
Weber State scored again in the top of the second with one run on two hits for a 7-0 lead.
Addie Jensen was dealing for the Wildcats, allowing only two hits and one walk to the Bears.
In the top of the fourth, Weber St. tacked on another run to build an 8-0 lead. UNC would need to score to extend the game beyond five innings.
The Bears could not get any offense going in the fourth or fifth innings and the Wildcats won the Big Sky tournament with an 8-0 victory. Vidal was hit with the loss after allowing seven earned runs in four innings of work.
"It was a good season and we have a lot to build on," Garcia added.
