Bears bash their way to a comeback win over UVU

UNC and Utah Valley went back-and-forth in an old fashion WAC shootout on Sunday. After posting two runs in the eighth to take a 10-8 lead the Wolverines saw the Bears answer right back in the bottom of the inning. Jack Pauley hit his third home run of the series to tie the game and Jake Gitter delivered what turned out to be the game-winning single in a 11-10 UNC comeback win.

For the second-consecutive day, the Bears took a one-run lead to the ninth and two batters in it looked eerily familiar to the final inning from Saturday. A UVU sacrifice bunt moved the tying and winning runs into scoring position with just one out. Sam Colehower stepped up to the occasion and induced a weak pop up on the infield for the second out and Pauley helped out his pitcher with a nice running catch in right field to end the game.

The Bears scored all but two of their 11 runs via the long ball. Trailing 5-0 in the third, Adrian Vela got UNC right back in the game when his grand slam over the centerfield fence tied the game at 5-5.

Trailing in the seventh inning, Gitter smacked his second home run of the season a three-run blast that tied the game at 8-8.

BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE

Gitter finished with four RBIs, the game-winning hit and a home run.
Vela also finished with four runs batted in and a single in addition to the grand slam.
Pauley hit a home run in every game of the series. He finished the game Sunday with three hits and RBIs.
Colehower came on in the eighth and earned the victory by not allowing a run on two hits.

SCHEDULE SAYS
UNC is off until Friday when they travel to New Mexico State to face the Aggies who are coming off a series win over Grand Canyon.
