Northern Colorado will hit the road to take on Montana this weekend
Northern Colorado softball will close out its regular season schedule this weekend as they travel for a three-game series against Montana. UNC [11-34, 5-9) will look to put themselves in good position to qualify for the Big Sky Tournament in two weeks, as the team will have a bye week after the road trip to Missoula.
The Bears are coming off a tough game against No. 25 Colorado State, falling 11-3 in six innings to the Rams this past Tuesday.
In the Big Sky standings, Northern Colorado is currently fifth, 1.5 games behind Portland State and Idaho State. UNC has a 5-9 record, with a one game lead on the Grizzlies(4-8) and a two game lead on last place Southern Utah(3-9).
Montana and the Thunderbirds face-off in the both teams' regular season finale next weekend, while the Bears are on their bye.
Emma Brockmann has found her power in conference play, batting .415 with three home runs, 13 RBIs and five doubles, with a staggering .756 slugging percentage; all of which lead the team. Brockmann has also drawn a team-high seven walks in Big Sky matchups.
Dani Young has also come-of-age in the Big Sky season, hitting an impressive .324 with one home run, six RBIs and two doubles, while scoring eight runs.
Scouting the Grizzlies
Montana heads into the home stretch with a 18-29 overall record and was swept last weekend by conference-leader Weber State. Montana swept a non-conference doubleheader with Providence on Monday, winning both games before seven innings. Cami Sellers drives the Grizzly lineup with a team-leading .346 average, five home runs and 27 RBIs. Collen Driscoll has been solid in the circle for Montana with a 3.69 ERA and an 8-9 record, pitching three complete games and one shutout.
UNC won two-out-three games from the Grizzlies last year in Greeley. The Bears swept the doubleheader to get the series win, but dropped the finale the following day.
