Colorado State sweeps the season series from Northern Colorado

FORT COLLINS- No. 25 Colorado State defeated Northern Colorado softball on Tuesday evening, 11-3 in six innings. UNC's record fell to 11-34 on the season as the Rams improved to 34-7.

Valerie Vidal was in circle for the second time this season against CSU. She faced Taylor Gilmore.

After both pitchers put up zeros in the first inning, the Rams unloaded for five runs on six hits in the bottom of the second to take the lead.

UNC fought back quickly in the top of the third, scoring a pair of runs in the inning. Mady Young hit a sacrifice fly to allow Kenzie Kudrna to score. Cheyenne Talmadge walked earlier in the inning and scored from third on a wild pitch. The Bears had clawed their way back into the game. Trailing 5-2.

CSU's bats got back to work in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs on five hits. The Rams left the bases loaded in the inning after Maggie Thurston came on to pitch in relief. UNC now trailed 8-2. In the bottom of the fifth, the Rams added another run to build their advantage to 9-2.

Shaena Robinson would double down the left field line in the top of the sixth to put a runner on with one out. Following an out, Alyssa Huerta came up with the two-out hit to bring Robinson into score and the deficit was now 9-3.

The Rams would end the game early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a walk-off triple from Danni Klein. UNC trailed by eight runs following the triple and CSU won the game 11-3.

Vidal suffered the loss after allowing eight earned runs in three innings pitched. Her record fell to 8-25. Gilmore pitched the complete, six innings with one earned run and her record now stands at 8-2.

Game Notes

The two teams combined to leave 14 runners on base Tuesday.
Mady Young went two-for-two with one RBI and also had two assists at shortstop.
Shaena Robinson hit her second double of the season and went one-for-three with one run scored.
Dani Young recorded her fourth stolen base of the season.
UNC's batters drew three walks and had three strikeouts in the game.

Back to the Road
Northern Colorado will close out the regular season this weekend with its final Big Sky series against Montana. The Bears will travel to Missoula for a doubleheader on Friday and the series finale on Saturday.
