UNC men's golf improved by seven strokes in its second round of the Redhawk Invitational
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Competing on the course that hosted the 2015 U.S. Open, Northern Colorado men's golf sits in a three-way tie for 12th place after day one of the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Course. UNC shot a 1-under, 567 through the first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament along with Seton Hall and fellow Big Sky member Idaho.
Senior Joshua Matz leads the Bears on the individual leaderboard sitting in a tie for 20th at 3-under, 139. He shot an opening round 68 during the morning session, before shooting an even-par 71 in the afternoon. His 3-under, 68 is the low score or the tournament for UNC so far.
Matz's teammate Nick Sharp joined him shooting in the 60s today with a second round 69. Sharp, sits at even-par, 142 for the tournament after a 73 to start his day. He will enter Tuesday's final round tied for 45th.
Both Coby Welch and Jack Castiglia turned in below par rounds for Northern Colorado on Monda, each shooting 1-under, 70s in the second round. Welch sits at 1-over, 143 for the tournament while Castiglia is two strokes behind him at 145 through two rounds.
Northern Colorado improved by seven strokes from the first to second round shooting a 287 over the first 18-holes before putting up a 280 during the afternoon/evening.
What's ahead
The Bears will look to extend its streak of finishing in the top 10 to 11-straight tournaments on Tuesday. UNC enters the final round one stroke out of the top 10.
Tuesday's final round will begin a 9 am MDT with live results on birdiefire.com.
