Northern Colorado fell in the third and final game against Portland State
PORTLAND, Ore.- The series win escaped Northern Colorado softball on Saturday afternoon, as Portland State defeated the Bears 3-0. Alyssa Burk was again a problem for the UNC lineup, pitching a complete game shutout, while allowing two hits and striking out 11.
Valerie Vidal did not start in the circle for UNC, but she relieved Maggie Thurston in the second inning and turned in a quality outing. Vidal pitched five innings allowing three earned runs, while striking out two and walking one.
The Vikings did their damage in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring all three of their runs on four hits. A single from Sala Pedebone was the key hit that brought two runs into score and gave Portland St. the 3-0 lead they would hold for the rest of the game.
Besides the fourth, Vidal was effective on the mound allowing only two other hits to the Vikings.Â
The Bears had an opportunity at the top of the second, as Natalie Joyner continued to swing a hot bat with a double to left field with one out. UNC could not get another hit to bring Joyner into score or advance her on the base path.
Emma Brockmann singled with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Burk closed out the game with ground out the next batter.
Next Up
Northern Colorado will return home and host Idaho State for a three-game series next Friday and Saturday at Gloria Rodriguez Field.
