Northern Colorado will play four games to prepare for conference play next week
Northern Colorado softball prepares to close out its non-conference schedule this weekend as they travel to Saint Louis for the Billiken Spring Tournament. The Bears will play four games between Friday and Saturday this weekend, including games against Northern Illinois, Saint Louis, Detroit-Mercy and Nebraska-Omaha.
UNC dropped five games at the Jeannine McHaney Classic this past weekend against No. 14 Texas Tech, Jacksonville State and Gardner-Webb.
Mady Young created opportunities at the plate last weekend, going three-for-11 with three runs scored, five RBIs and six walks. Young is batting .297 this season and leads the team with 10 RBIs and four doubles.
Cheyenne Talmadge had a strong weekend at the plate, batting five-for-14 with four runs scored and one RBI, with two walks. Talmadge is batting .260 on the season and a team-leading .400 on-base percentage.
Kenzie Kudrna continued to the consistent hitter for UNC at the top of the order in Lubbock, batting four-for-15 with two runs scored and one RBI. Kudrna leads UNC this season and is eighth in the conference with a .318 batting average and 10 runs scored.
Valerie Vidal leads the Big Sky with 93.1 inning pitched, 16 starts and is second in the conference with 49 strikeouts. Vidal has six complete games with one shutout on the season.
Maggie Thurston lead the team last weekend with 14.2 innings pitched and struck out five batters while only walking one.
Northern Colorado will look to go into conference play next week with some momentum from the final tournament of their non-conference season.
Following the Bears
On Friday, March 15th, UNC will play Northern Illinois at 12 pm MST and Saint Louis at 2:30 pm. On Saturday, March 16th, the Bears will play their final two games of the Billiken Spring Tournament against Detroit-Mercy at 1:30 pm and Nebraska-Omaha at 3:30.
