PHOENIX, Ariz. – It was a weekend full of changes for UNC baseball. After moving the series with Washington from Seattle to Phoenix, the Bears and Huskies had to make three more changes to the schedule.
After postponing the game scheduled on Friday to a doubleheader on Saturday and UNC took a 2-1 lead to the sixth inning of the seven-inning opener. Jack Pauley got UNC on the board with a 2-run single in the third inning. The Huskies followed by scoring a single run in the bottom of the frame, but the UNC pitchers kept them off the board until their final two at bats. They scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to win, 3-2.
In addition to Pauley, Matt Zoba and Billy Moreland each had a hit.
Issac Bracken went four innings allowed just one run and struck out four.
GAME 1
The series opened a day earlier than orginally scheduled and Jake Gitter took full advantage. He went 3-for-5 with a long ball and drove in four runs, but Washington won the opener 25-8.
Pauley added three hits and an RBI. Quinn Ayers added a pair of hits and drove in one.
GAME 3
With the game tied at 1-1 in the fourth, Washington broke the game open with a five-run inning and went on to add four more runs to win by run rule, 11-1.
Gitter had a hit and an RBI. Zoba added a pair of base knocks.
