Bears Fall Short in Game One in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. - Northern Colorado baseball battled but came up short on the road, falling 3-1 to Oral Roberts on Thursday night at Chapman Park.
The Bears were locked in a tight contest, with both teams leaning on strong pitching performances. Northern Colorado managed just four hits on the evening but stayed within striking distance from start to finish.
Oral Roberts struck first with a run in the opening inning, but the Bears answered in the third. Northern Colorado pushed across its lone run of the game, capitalizing on an opportunity to even the score at 1-1 and shift momentum briefly in its favor.
Despite the limited offense, Northern Colorado received a solid outing on the mound from Ethan Louthan. The right-hander worked 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four and keeping the Bears within reach deep into the game. Gus Allred provided scoreless relief over the final 1.1 innings to give UNC a chance late.
The Golden Eagles regained control with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, breaking the tie and creating separation in what remained a pitcher's duel.
Northern Colorado threatened late but unable to deliver the timely hits needed to close the gap.
ON DECK: The Bears will look to bounce back as the series continues against Oral Roberts, aiming to even the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. MDT tomorrow at Chapman Park.
